Test your receptionist before (and after) you go live

Modified on Sat, 11 Jul at 10:30 AM

You never have to wonder what your callers hear. BloomLine can place a test call to your own cell phone any time, so you can listen to Riley's greeting and conversation style before a single real customer reaches it - and re-check after every change you make.

Place a test call from the Opening line studio

The fastest way to hear Riley is the Test call block in the Opening line studio:

  1. Open the Opening line studio from the dashboard sidebar (under Shop, it is the Opening line item).
  2. Scroll to the Test call block.
  3. Enter your mobile number in the phone number field.
  4. Click the place-test-call button. Your phone rings within moments, and Riley greets you exactly as it would greet a customer.

What to listen for

  • The greeting: is the shop name right, does the tone fit your brand?
  • The invitation line: the question Riley asks after the greeting to get the conversation moving.
  • The conversation itself: ask about delivery, prices, or hours and hear how Riley handles the answers.

If anything feels off, edit the greeting right there in the studio, save, and place another test call. Saved changes go live on the next call, so you can iterate in minutes.

See your test call on the dashboard

Every test call lands on the Calls page like any other call, complete with a transcript and recording. Test calls are marked with a mystery-shop tag in the calls list, so they are easy to tell apart from real customer calls. Taking a test call also checks off the "Take a test call" item on your Getting started checklist.

Keep testing after you go live

Going live is not the end of testing - it is the start of a habit:

  • Place a test call after any greeting, voice, or hours change to hear the result before customers do.
  • Call after big config updates (new delivery zones, new prices) and ask Riley about them.
  • When you want a deeper, scored evaluation, run a mystery shop: an AI tester dials your line and grades Riley against a rubric. It is the "Run a mystery shop" item on your checklist.

A two-minute test call is the cheapest insurance you can buy for your phone line. Make it part of every change you ship.
