US carriers require businesses to register before sending application-to-person (A2P) text messages - and BloomLine texts on your behalf all the time: payment links to callers mid-order, and SMS alerts to you and your team. The SMS legal step in the Setup Assistant collects what carriers need, so your texts keep flowing instead of getting filtered as unregistered traffic.
Why this matters for your shop
- Payment links - when Riley takes an order and texts the caller a payment link, that message is A2P traffic. Unregistered A2P messages can be blocked or filtered by carriers, which means a customer standing there ready to pay never receives the link.
- Alert texts - the SMS notifications about calls and escalations that go to your cell ride the same rails.
Registration is a one-time piece of paperwork that protects the deliverability of both.
What you'll need
The SMS legal (A2P) step asks for three things:
- Legal business name - exactly as registered, not your storefront nickname. If the sign says "Petals" but the registration says "Petals Floral Design LLC", use the LLC name.
- EIN - your federal Employer Identification Number, the nine-digit tax ID on your IRS paperwork.
- Registered business address - the address on your business registration, which may differ from your storefront.
How to complete it
- Open the Setup Assistant at https://km-florist-receptionist.vercel.app/dashboard/setup and select the SMS legal (A2P) step.
- Enter the legal business name, EIN, and registered business address.
- Save the step. The step self-saves and checks off like the rest of the Setup Assistant.
Accuracy beats speed
Carrier registration checks your details against business records. The most common snag is a mismatch - a trade name instead of the legal name, or an old address. Take the two minutes to copy the details from your actual registration documents and the process goes through cleanly.
Related features that depend on this
Outbound SMS from your BloomLine number (in the Integrations tab) also depends on A2P registration being in place. If you plan to use any text-based features, complete this step early - it is quick on your side, and it unblocks everything downstream.
