Edit your follow-up sequence: touches, merge tags, and the email editor

Modified on Sat, 11 Jul at 10:30 AM

Your follow-up sequence is a series of touches - texts and emails that go out on a schedule after a lead enters a workflow. The Cadence editor (https://km-florist-receptionist.vercel.app/cadence) is where you rewrite every one of them: what it says, when it sends, and which channel it uses.

The anatomy of a touch

Each touch in the sequence has:

  • Step number: its position in the sequence.
  • Day offset: how many days after the person enters the workflow this touch fires.
  • Channel: Text or Email.
  • Subject: for email touches only.
  • Body: the message itself, with a rich toolbar for email.
  • Enable/disable: turn any single touch off without deleting it - the rest of the sequence keeps running.

Edit a touch

  1. Open the Cadence editor at /cadence.
  2. Pick the touch you want to change and adjust its day offset or channel if needed.
  3. For an email touch, write the subject line, then edit the body. The toolbar gives you Bold, Italic, and Insert merge tag.
  4. Use Insert merge tag to drop in personalization instead of typing a placeholder by hand - that guarantees the tag is spelled exactly right.
  5. Toggle the touch on if it was disabled. Enabled touches send on schedule to everyone who is live in the workflow.

Merge tags you can use

Merge tags are placeholders that fill in per recipient at send time:

  • {first}: the person's first name.
  • {eventDate}: their event date.
  • {venue}: their venue.
  • {guestCount}: their guest count.
  • {wedding_clip}, {mitzvah_clip}, {corp_clip}: per-vertical highlight-reel links.

The clip tags are the special ones: the engine expands each into the right highlight-reel link for that vertical at send time, so a wedding lead gets the wedding reel and a corporate lead gets the corporate one, from the same touch body.

A few habits that pay off

  • Keep early touches short. A day-1 text reads very differently from a day-14 email, and the day offset is your pacing tool.
  • Disable a touch instead of deleting its copy when you're experimenting - you can bring it back with one click.
  • After editing, check /cadence/flow to see the NEXT touch column for people already in the workflow, so you know what they'll receive next.
